Workshop: Real Self-Care for Therapists 1

  • Abberley Park Hall 15 Abberley Crescent, St Albans Christchurch, Canterbury, 8014 New Zealand (map)

The essence of this workshop is moving beyond the notion of self-care as occasional respite from and amelioration of the demands of life and work and toward an understanding of self-care as responsiveness to ourselves. It’s designed specifically with therapists in mind.

If:

  • the self-care you engage in generates only short-term effects; or

  • any mention of self-care elicits an eye-roll because the expression feels so overused; or

  • the subject of self-care has a chastening effect because it’s something you’ve been meaning to get round to but haven’t; or

  • you’d like to better care for yourself but even the thought of the effort puts you off; or

  • you’d enjoy a refresher on self-care, or appreciate a fresh approach to self-care;

…then this workshop could be of value to you.

Over the course of the day we’ll consider four key features of real self-care and how we might embody each of these in a way that doesn’t feel onerous but workable in the context of our lives:

a pace of grace | tenderness | soul connection & purpose | boundaries

We’ll also identify and address both systemic and internal psycho-emotional barriers to self-care and contributors to burnout.

When: April 12, 2024
Where: Abberley Park Hall, Christchurch
Facilitator: Pip Ranby
Cost: $190

PLEASE NOTE: Workshop participants will have the option to attend and will be given priority of place in a follow-up workshop on Friday, October 18, 2024 - “Real Self-Care for Therapists 2.” This second workshop, also to be held in Christchurch at Avebury House, will focus on how we can practice self-care in sessions with clients and how we might consciously metabolize the effects of our high exposures to distress, uncertainty, constraints, and slow progress.

The facilitation fee for “Real Self-Care for Therapists 2” will also be $190.

Workshops are formats of integral learning about particular aspects of spirituality and contemplative practice, or therapeutic practice and how these are integrated in our living. Workshops include teaching periods, spiritual practices, creative and body-based inquiries, and group discussions. There are opportunities for personal reflection and interpersonal exchange, the shared wisdom of the group being key in developing insight and understanding.

I’m committed to supporting people in their engagement in spiritual practice and professional development and want my offerings to be accessible to people. If the cost of this offering is a barrier to your participation please contact me to express your interest and request a reduced fee.
